Hi, I'm Anabelle
Non-toxic Living
Work with our team
Hi friends! Today I’m sharing my favorite non-toxic clean beauty and skincare products. This is a long overdue post, because I am very passionate about clean beauty, and know that this is the direction we’re going towards. If you’re thinking about changing up your routine to include more non-toxic skincare, read on and grab a special discount code from my friends over at Follain.
I started getting interested in clean beauty back in 2014 when I came across the Instagram of Follain, I saw the work they were doing and knew I wanted to be a part of it. In 2015 and 2016 I worked at their South End store in Boston and learned so much about the clean beauty world, and also how far behind our American policies are in terms of ingredients that are safe to use. For comparison, the EU bans over 1400 ingredients in their skincare and beauty products. The U.S. only bans 6.
This means that are literally hundreds of harmful ingredients flooding our everyday products including shampoos and conditioners, makeup, creams and lotions, feminine hygiene products, and the list goes on and on. I decided I could either continue buying into this system and potentially harming myself (hey, your skin is your largest organ and everything you put ON your skin gets absorbed into your blood – yep) or change it up.
What I love about Follain, is that they truly care about educating the public and even get involved in advocating for policy change. It’s not just about buying the latest cream, it’s about caring about the health of women in this country, and being advocates and supporters of non-toxic products. On their site, you can see a full list of ingredients they ban, with detailed explanations of why they ban them.
Another wonderful resource I use is the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Cosmetics Database to check which products are safe, and which are not. Lastly, the app Think Dirty is a great resource on the go to check your current products and how they compare to some of the cleaner products on the market.
Luckily there are dozens of incredible brands that make clean beauty products that are amazing and truly work. I’m going to share the products I’m currently using for skincare, but if you want to know which makeup brands I like, I can make it a separate post as this one might get a little long 🙂
Kahina Argan Oil: One simple ingredient – argan oil that I use on my face, body, and hair. This brand empowers women in Morocco with jobs, and I love supporting them!
May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon: This is like the holy grail of clean skincare, it’s definitely pricey, but so worth it. I use this at night and as an under-eye cream.
Tata Harber Calrifying Mask: I use this mask about once a week for my self-care Sunday, I love the smell of it, and it acts like an exfoliator as well.
French Girl Organic Lip Scrub: delicious sugar scrub, perfect for dry lips. Tastes delicious too 😉
Naturopathica Oat Cleanser: I am obsessed with this cleanser, it’s a gentle exfoliator and makes me feel so refreshed. Really good for dry and sensitive skin.
Naturopathia Calendula Cream: I love this rich moisturizer and use this on top of an oil or serum since my skin is very dry. Great for drier/colder months.
Agent Nateur Deodorant (not skincare, but essential!) – I go and off between different deodorants, but this is my current favorite one. I’ve also tried Aer, Piper Wei, and Soapwalla and loved those too.
I have an awesome little discount from my friends at Follain for you! If you’re a first-time shopper at Follain, you can use the code: ref15_mawhx6 to get 15% off MOST products (excludes: Josh Rosebrook, May Lindstrom, One Love Organics, True Botanicals, Vintners Daughter) at Follain! This is huge because they don’t usually do any sales. Again, whatever you choose, know that you’re making a step in the right direction!
That’s all for now friends. Remember, knowledge is power. We know that conventional beauty and skincare products are harmful to our health. Whether you change one thing or all the things is up to you, but taking steps in the right direction is key, especially if you are thinking about getting pregnant and especially during pregnancy.
Have you tried any of these products before? If you were to switch one thing, what would it be? Let me know in the comments below and feel free to tag me on Instagram with your new clean beauty finds! xx
